Puerto Vallarta Emergency and Important Phone Numbers and Information Dial 060/066 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico as the emergency phone number in order to contact the police (policía), fire department (bomberos) or for whatever urgent emergency you might have or witness; dial 080 from Mexican cellular phones. Both of these are like dialing 911 in the United States.  Here below is a list of some other useful important and emergency Puerto Vallarta phone numbers for ambulances, hospitals, airlines, major department stores and supermarkets and importantly enough the local Consular Agents information if you have trouble in paradise. You can buy the Ladatel phone cards for the public Telmex phones (picture left) at almost any convenience store, Puerto Vallarta pharmacy or grocery store in the city and these cards cost 30, 50 or 100 pesos. It's 3 pesos for an unlimited local phone call now; you can call the US or Canada for around 5 pesos (42 cents) a minute; calling a Mexican cellular phone number starting with 044 is rather expensive by the minute, try not to call collect or use the operator as the rates are rather outrageous. Many non-narcotic drugs that require a prescription in the United States or Canada do not in Mexico and can be picked up in any pharmacy in town; new regulations starting in 2011 require a prescription now for antibiotics, and of course that has been true always for narcotic drugs. Most medications here are considerably cheaper than in the US.
