Colectika Art Gallery

Downtown/el Centro - 858 Guadalupe Sanchez street at Allende
Tel: 322-222-1007

The Mexican Ancestral Contemporary art Gallery Colectika, from Kevin Simpson and the people at Peyote People,
is for the newer generation of artists and their folk art in a new space where they hope that
you will look at some very old traditions in a whole new way.

Colectika features alibrije wood carvings of Jacobo and Maria Angeles (from Oaxaca),
carvings and paintings by Julia Fuentes, wool rugs by Jacobo Mendoza,
painting and ceramics by Demetrio Aguilar,
as well as the traditional and lovely high quality Huichol bead and yarn artwork.

Located three blocks up from the Malecon boardwalk in a hacienda-style house with inside gardens,
Colectika is one of newer galleries in Vallarta.

For more photos, visit their page at Colectika Native Art Gallery (facebook)
or their Peyote People - Huichol Indian Folk Art web site

Hours of operation: Mon-Fri, 10am-8pm; Sat, 10am-6pm

The artist Adrian Takano Rojas is part of a significant muralist movement in Puerto Vallarta
that is being recognized internationally, and this breathtaking mural
of his on the outside wall of the
Colectika Native Art Gallery
show why it's gaining so much attention and momentum.
The piece was commissioned by Colectika owner Kevin Simpson, who also leads mural tours around the city.
“From the mouth of the shaman come the words that heal the earth,
and these wise words migrate from generation to generation,
transcending time,” he says. “So does this work of art.”

Friendly staff can give advice on any of the art work exhibited at this wonderful galleria

"We visited Colectika on a self-guided Art Walk tour, and we were not disappointed.
We purchased some lovely pieces here, at a very reasonable price.
We will definitely return on our next visit to PV."

The world famous Oaxacan wood carvers Jacobo and Maria Angeles
were at Colectika to demonstrate traditional wood carving and how the natural paints they use are created
They are inspired by the traditional Zapotec codices that covered pyramids like Monte Alban.
James and Mary's work is displayed in museums and galleries around the world,
including the Smithsonian Native American Museum.
